Life and Printmaking Art

Jürgen Höritzsch

was born 1958 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (GDR).

lives and works in Chemnitz (Germany)

In the mid-eighties, I made the first experiments in the field of printmaking. Drypoint etching and silkscreen printing were the techniques of the first sheets under very simple technical conditions.

In the following years, I tried etching and aquatint, lithography even temporarily.

After I had built my own silk screen printing workshop, this technique was the main procedure for my artistic work during several years. But later I turned me from it and prefer wood cutting as a relief printing process.

Occasionally I work even today in this technique, but the focus of my current work is on intaglio printing, that means etching, with its much procedures like reservage, aquatint, photographic etching etc.

I prefer the combined technology, in which various operations manual or chemical type were apply on the printing plate. The end result can sometimes be technically difficult to assign, but the artistic impression of the sheet after finishing for me is anyway in the first place.
