The original artistbook TRANCE

The original artistbook TRANCE

The subject matter of expressionist poetry was the radical rejection of any convention and the intense expression of own feeling. This was also my intention for giving my book the title TRANCE. I have made nine etchings and print them in face to nine fragments from the German expressionist poetry. The poetry selected by me to find a clear and powerful language, which allows space for individual secret. I was on the limited selection of short fragments, which I have juxtaposed pictorial interpretation.

I have the book published in the spring of 2008 in an edition of 30 copies.

The texts were taken from the following poems:

  • "Die Götter" (The Gods) by Albert Ehrenstein
  • "Fremde sind wir auf der Erde alle" (All we are strangers on earth) by Franz Werfel
  • "Der junge Hebbel" (The young Hebbel) by Gottfried Benn
  • "Klage" (Lament) by Georg Trakl
  • "Die Witwe" (The Widow) by Berta Lask
  • "Der Krieg" (The War) by Franz Werfel
  • "Bergung" (Salvage) by Ruth Schaumann
  • "Verlorenes Ich" (Lost Myself) by Gottfried Benn
  • "Umbra Vitae" by Georg Heym

The printing and binding process was realized by myself.
